JUNE 13, 2005 - ORANGE, CA - Six titles from one of the most impressive new publishers in American comics have found their home with International Enterprise for their foreign licensing representation. SPEAKEASY COMICS joins the Enterprise's ever-expanding roster with the first story arcs from critically-acclaimed series ATOMIKA, BEOWULF, THE GRIMOIRE, THE HUNGER, and the PHANTOM JACK and RAVENOUS graphic novels. Already selling out internationally, these books have attracted some of the industry's biggest names domestically, with Alex Ross providing fully-painted covers to the first issues of ATOMIKA..
"We're pleased to be able to offer our creators and publishing partners the option of working with International Enterprise," comments Adam Fortier, President of Speakeasy Comics. "They have already helped put our initial titles into the foreign market, with more news coming on the next wave."
Set in an alternate past where the Revolution has become the State, ATOMIKA is the story of the first man-made deity and his quest to destroy the ancient gods and shake the world to its very core. Created and penciled by Sal Abbinanti and written by Andrew Dabb, with fully painted covers by ALEX ROSS, the first six issues of Atomika are currently available through International Enterprise in all territories except Bulgaria, France, Italy and Spain.
Written by Brian Augustyn with full color artwork by Dub!, BEOWULF follows the great warrior of literary fame as he now resides in Manhattan, and is the only one to realize a sudden outbreak of super-human powers is only a sign of worse things to come. The first six issues of this exciting new series are currently available in all territories except Bulgaria, Italy and Spain.
THE GRIMOIRE is a magical book of power that falls into the hands of a young girl named Amandine. Passed on to her by a mysterious masked stranger, the Grimoire takes her on adventures that introduce her to enchanted new friends and terrifying enemies. Written by Sebastien Caisse and illustrated in animated full-color by Djief, the first six issues of this magical story are currently available in all territories except Italy and Spain.
On a darker note, superstar creator ERIC POWELL (The Goon) provides covers while Jose Torres and Chris Dibari deliver THE HUNGER, a horror comic that will truly satisfy your fright palette. If getting kidnapped and murdered by a Caribbean gangster while on vacation wasn't bad enough, Charlie finds himself resurrected as the living dead in a nightmare world where the mystical is not only real - its deadly. Issues #1-6 of THE HUNGER are currently available in territories all over the world except in Spain.
Jack Baxter is PHANTOM JACK, a New York reporter with the fortunate ability to become invisible. His powers could (and often do) provide him with the most profitable stories, but Jack is haunted by the guilt of letting a friend die in a foreign land....and now, he must go back. PHANTOM JACK is a 200-page trade paperback, written by Mike Sangiacomo and illustrated by Mitchell Breitweiser and Jaime Jones, available in all territories except Italy and Spain.
Clocking in at 152-pages and chock-full of extras, the dark lunacy of RAVENOUS is inspired by the classic works of Edgar Allen Poe in dark, brooding paints, drawing from the master while offering a mystery of its own. A young detective chases after a serial killer in a sleepy little town, through the brushwork and storytelling of writer/artist Dawn Brown. Ravenous is available in all territories except in Italy and Spain.
International Rights Manager Tim Hegarty admires Speakeasy's diverse line of titles: "Every one of their books has its own unique style and its own talented voice, and they have quickly associated the Speakeasy name with good comics in such a short time. We hope to do the same with the addition of their titles to our roster."
