Pripriat, Soviet Union, 1986: the nuclear power station at Chernobyl explodes. On the same day, three weddings are celebrated and consummated in the city. One of these is between Jack, a New Yorker, and Irena, a Belorussian.
New York, 2006: Jack and Irene's son, Mark, is one of the many kids born with deformities as a result of the radiations from Chernobyle's disaster. Mark is twenty and disfigured, and constantly torn between his bursts of murderous violence and subsequent pain and regret. A tale of the love and hatred between Mark and his father, a tired old man who finds his only relief in the poems he reads to his comatose wife. A tale of murder, regret, betrayal and suspense. Noir, poetry and action combine in this graphic novel reminiscent of Peter Borgdanovich's The Mask and Martin Scorsese's grittiest movies.
